PC MAJORITY ELECTS ATTWAN AL-ATTWANY NEW CAPITAL GOVERNOR

NRTTV, Mar. 6: Baghdad Provincial Council (PC) voted by majority (39 out of 57) on electing former PC Deputy Chair, Mr. Attwan al- Attwany, as the new Governor of the capital, instead of Mr. Ali al-Tamimi. Seventeen Sadrist members walked out of the meeting, considering it illegal, for non-presence of a judicial observer, while other PC members insisted it was constitutional. Sadrist members had objections and questioned the legitimacy of the session, which witnessed chaos and verbal altercations. The PC had voted by the majority on the dismissal of former Governor al-Tamimi, after being questioned in connection with Baghdad Falcon Security corruption charges.
